**Board Statement Regarding the Golf Course**

As the community knows, there is a current opening at Deer trace golf course for a superintendent position. We are looking for candidates that have the appropriate educational background (either a two-year or four-year turfgrass degree) and can obtain a Kansas Department of Agriculture pesticide applicators license. One of our goals with the new superintendent is to come up with a long-term plan to introduce warm season grass (Zoysia or Bermuda) to our fairways that can withstand summer heat and stress.

Regarding the condition of the golf course, we have been consulting with former superintendents and industry professionals to maintain the existing conditions. The extremely dry weather that has persisted late this summer through October and the lack of grass in the fairways have impacted our conditions. We have (in the recent past) seeded our fairways with cool season grasses (bluegrass and rye) that do not withstand the summer heat. We do not have the irrigation capacity to water those grass varieties enough to survive the summer heat. There are also limitations to our golf course irrigation system which we will also be working to address.  If you have specific questions, please contact the Board through the POA website.

Additional information - for the past 61 days, water has been diverted from the main lake to the golf course irrigation lake at an average of 283,000 gallons per day. Rural Water District #1 is the back up for our water distribution lines and water hauling. RWD #1 has not been receiving any water from the City of LaCygne for several months so there is not an abundance of extra water. We are in a drought and we must be careful with the use of our water.
